Analyst: 5 million copies of Wrath of the Lich King to be sold in first month
In just a few days Blizzard will be released their second expansion pack for their 11 million subscriber strong MMO World of Warcraft. The expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, was already expected to do well but a financial analyst is now predicting that Blizzard will be selling a ton of copies of the game.
Gamasutra reports that Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey has stated, "We expect the upcoming release of WoW's expansion pack... would yield a sell-through of roughly 5 million units in the first month."That's a massive amount for any game, let along a PC exclusive. It would certainly surpass the sales of the first expansion, The Burning Crusade, which game out in January 2007. Blizzard said that nearly 2.4 million copies of that expansion were sold in just the first 24 hours and that 3.53 million copies were sold in its first month.
