World of Warcraft surpasses 11 million subscribers
As Blizzard gets ready to release its next World of Warcraft expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King, in the next couple of weeks, the main game has just achieved a new milestone. Blizzard announced this morning that World of Warcraft has now gone over the 11 million mark in worldwide subscribers.
Blizzard made it to 10 million subscribers last January so adding another million inside of a year for a game that is now close to four years old is pretty substantial. Blizzard points out the game recently was launched in Russia and Latin America. In early 2007, the last expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, sold close to 2.4 million copies in just its first 24 hours. With an increase in the game's subscribers, Wrath of the Lich King could surpass that number when it launches Nov. 13.
