Phillips spins off amBX into stand alone business

The folks at Phillips have been promoting their game-oriented multi-media hardware amBX for some time and now the company is cutting the division's cords and letting it loose. Today Phillips announced that the amBX team (based in the UK) is now spinning off into their own stand alone business, amBX UK Limited.

In case you are not familiar with amBX it's basically a series of speakers, lights and fans that react with amBX enabled games like Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway, Far Cry 2 and the upcoming Legendary and Velvet Assassin. This new business move will enable amBX to continue to expand to support more games as well as support films, TV shows and other media outlets

That cool. Hopefully this is a good thing for the technology. I'd probably bite if they sold a speaker-less version (I already have a nice set of speakers) and lowered the price a bit.

I was just looking at the website for that stuff a couple of days ago. It seemed like the most unnecessary addition to a gaming rig that I could ever imagine. I guess it's good to see companies experimenting with enhancing the gaming experience, but I guess I just don't feel the need for it.Posted at 12:35PM on Oct 20th 2008 by paralipsis

Bysmitty, there is a speakerless version. The starter pack just has lights, no speakers and you can get the expansion pack withit if you want the fans and rumbler.

A good move for amBX. Being able to get more partners in the games / entertainment industry can only be a good thing.
