Starcraft II to be released as three separate games

Blizzard revealed a new player class for Diablo III during Blizzcon today but it had even bigger news for its upcoming sci-fi RTS sequel Starcraft II. Our sister site Joystiq reports from Blizzcon that the game will actually be released as three separate titles. Whaaaaaaa? Yep, that's how we feel.

Apparently, Starcraft II's three playable races (Terran, Zerg, and Protoss) will have their own separate stand alone retail game release. There's no word on which will be released first and how long people will have to wait in between game releases. And no, there's no word on a release date.

It's fine with me. It's basically two expansions.

We get the full multiplayer game in the first release, anyway. If you want more of the campaign, then buy the two expansions. If they were to release everything at once, there would either be a degradation in quality or a huge delay, and we definitely do not want a huge delay.

We get the full multiplayer game in the first release, anyway. If you want more of the campaign, then pirate the two expansions.

Yeah that's what is most likely to happen.

And this is okay by me IF and ONLY IF maybe the 1st game is $40 and the other two are $30. Then it would be acceptable, but for that price I better be getting a hell of a lot of content.Posted at 5:51AM on Oct 11th 2008 by Hashbrown Hunter
