Nvidia proposes settlement to graphics chip price fixing lawsuit

Back in 2006, class action lawsuits were filed against graphics chip makers Nvidia and ATI (now part of AMD) accusing the companies of conspiring to fix prices on graphics chips. In a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Nvidia has proposed a settlement to its lawsuits.

Under the agreement, which still has to be approved by a judge, Nvidia would pay $850,000 into a $1.7 million fund that would serve as a way to settle all claims in the lawsuit. That money would be used to pay back people who bought graphics chips from Nvidia and ATI web sites between December 4, 2002 and November 7, 2007. Presumably AMD would pay the balance of the amount in the fund although there's no official word yet from the company if that is indeed the case.
