More PC games join Games for Windows Live program
Microsoft's Games for Windows marketing program has been something of a mixed bag since its launch two years ago. The company has tried to use a console-like push to promote PC games with the brand but not every PC game release has used the Games For Windows logo since its launch. (The Orange Box, Unreal Tournament 3, Spore, Warhammer Online and the forthcoming games Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Far Cry 2 and Left 4 Dead are among those major PC titles that lack a Games for Windows logo on their boxes). In addition the outcry of paying to use features for the Games for Windows Live service caused Microsoft to change their minds and offer those features free of charge a few months ago.
Today Microsoft announced the official addition of four more new PC games that will support Games For Windows Live, including the upcoming PC port of Rockstar's open world action game Grand Theft Auto IV. Other live titles mentioned were Fallout 3, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II and Quantum of Solace but the main attention was given to GTV IV which according to Microsoft's Kevin Unangst will feature support for DirectX10 graphics in addition to previously announced expanded multiplayer features and in-game video recording. As we reported in our interview with Unangst this past summer, Games For Windows Live is supposed to get a user interface revamp "soon" which will include things like a downloadable marketplace for content like demos, patches and more.
