Are publishers afraid of DRM-free games?

Over the last couple of weeks the debate over DRM set-ups in PC games has come to a head as Electronic Arts has tried to defend it's use of the practice in games like Spore and Crysis Warhead. One company that believes giving consumers DRM-free PC games is CD Projekt. Gamesindustry.biz has a new chat with company execs about this issue.

Earlier this month CD Projekt launched GoG.com (in beta form) which offers older PC games from publishers like Codemasters and Interplay free of any DRM set-up. So far the response from consumers has exceeded CD Projekt's expectations but they also admit it's been hard to convince publishers to release their titles without such features. Yet CD Project CEO Michal Kicinski states, "We believe that if you take this kind of approach to gamers they will also appreciate us and they won't pirate those cheap games..."

Gamers still hoping to join the Early Access Beta for GoG.com have until 11:59 pm ET tonight to do so; If you purchase a game from GoG.com during that time you can get a free Interplay title.
