Star Trek Online due in fall 2009? [Update]

When Cryptic Studios announced their plans to take over the development of Star Trek Online earlier this summer, its founder Jack Emmert told an audience at a Las Vegas Trek convention that they knew what the release date would be and that it would be released sooner than some folks might have thought. Well the new print issue of Game Informer magazine just got sent to subscribers with a Star Trek Online cover story that seems to reveal Cryptic's planned launch dates.

According to the article Star Trek Online is currently scheduled for release in the fall of 2009. If true that would indeed be a very fast turnaround for Cryptic who only got the license from the now defunct Perpetual Entertainment back in January. Emmert stated during his Trek covention speech that they already had the engine and technology in place for Star Trek Online and that it was just a matter of putting in content for the game. Big Download has emailed Cryptic's PR rep to confirm the fall 2009 release date from the magazine but at the time of this news post we had not received a response. Update: We managed to reach Cryptic's PR rep who stated that they still don't have an official release date yet for the game.
