It seems to be our favorite topic this week; DRM copyright protection in games. We have seen how some people are upset about Spore's use of it , EA revealed their DRM plans for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Ken Levine got threatened by gamers because of BioShock's DRM. Now comes word that the upcoming fantasy action-RPG Sacred 2 will have some kind of DRM set-up, at least in Germany.
According to a translated FAQ over at RPGWatch, Sacred 2 will have two licenses for each box copy which means you can install it on two PCs (although only one of them can actually run the game at any one time). Two activations and unlimited installations are offered and an Internet connection is need for installation. If the activation servers ever shut down permanently a patch will be offered to get rid of the DRM issues.
Of course this may be just for the German version of the game. The US version, which is being published by CDV, might be different. We have contacted their PR rep for more info. Update: And indeed CDV's response is, "cdv, as North American publisher, is currently formulating the license rights it intends to provide to each customer, and will finalize these after careful consideration of and in compliance with the regulations and customer expectations as they apply to the North American market."

When will people learn that DRM doesn't accomplish anything besides apperantly death threats, and annoyances to everyone.
