Mythic VP: Warhammer Online must succeed for the good of the industry
Mythic Entertainment founder and current VP Mark Jacobs has never been one to mince words and he doesn't dissapoint in a new article based interview with MTV's Multiplayer blog. Jacobs is promoting the launch later this month of their long awaited MMO Warhammer Online and he feels that the game must succeed . . . and not just for the good of Mythic or its owner Electronic Arts.
Jacobs looks at Blizzard's huge sales and subscriber success with World of Warcraft and clearly feels some game need to seriously challenge it. He thought that Funcom's recent launch of Age of Conan might be the one to do it but after a surge in sales at launch the game has since faded out. Jacobs states, "If we don't succeed with EA behind us, the 'Warhammer' IP behind us, with one of the most experienced teams in the industry, that's not going to be good for the industry. We need to show the world that it's not just Blizzard who can make a great game, and that the audience is absolutely willing to try new things and to play a game other than 'WoW.'" We will see if Jacobs, Mythic and EA can pull it off when Warhammer Online officially launches on September 18.
