Hardware: The Razer's Edge

Intense gaming requires top-notch hardware that's durable, precise, responsive and comfortable for playing fast-paced shooters. Razer has a broad range of high-end equipment to give hardcore gamers an extra competitive edge. We put Razer's Lycosa gaming keyboard, Lachesis mouse and Piranha headset through the test to find out if immersing completely into the Razer experience is worth the asking price.

The Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard

MSRP: $79.99

The Good: This small, flat, sleek keyboard looks fantastic on any desk and establishes the owner as a no-nonsense hardcore gamer. Media controls are discreet and practically unnoticeable, leaving nothing to distract from gaming. The rubberized non-slip keys are very responsive, and the backlighting can be set so that only the WASD keys show up. It's a little gimmicky, but surprisingly cool. This keyboard has an overall rock-solid design that stays perfectly in place even during intense gaming.

The Bad: Key letters can't be seen without backlighting turned on, even in well-lit rooms. Keyboard has only one USB port, which uses a dedicated USB plug. Gamers who don't want to use the built-in USB, headphone and/or microphone ports will have a lot of wires dangling around.

Verdict: The Lycosa may be a little pricey, but gamers looking for a highly responsive keyboard for super-intense gaming sessions should give it some consideration. Not only does it look great, but no-nonsense design keeps focus on the game, where it belongs. We wished that it had some dedicated macro keys, but those that want it can check out the Razer Tarantula instead.
