Stardock first launched their Impulse game digital distribution client a couple months ago and since then it has been used to distribute games and patches from the publisher like Sins of a Solar Empire along with a number of third party titles. However, the company has been working on ways to improve Impulse and recently announced their plans to do so on the official Impulse web site.
The post is also a kind of post mortem on the initial launch of Impulse (including answering complaints from some users who would rather download patches for games manually). For Phase 2 (due out later this month), the next version of Impulse will add support for matchmaking, downloads of freeware programes, and more, along with improvements in download times and load times. Features due after Phase 2 is released include achievements, rankings and other additions.

Sweet. I've been using Impulse almost since it launched and have very much enjoyed the experience so far. Anything they can do to build on that is great. On the other hand, achievements? really? When will this fad end? I play games for fun not for meaningless 'points'.
