Digging through the Time Warner second quarter earnings, which were released earlier today, reveals this little tidbit of info: "... $18 million noncash impairment of GameTap as a result of Turner's decision to sell its on-line video game business."
Boasting a catalog filled with tons of classic arcade, console and computer games as well as newer titles such as the episodic American McGee's Grimm, it's not yet known what impact the sale will have on the extensive GameTap service itself, nor is there any concrete mention of potential buyers.

Damn shame, hopefully this doesn't have an impact on the service. Gametap is a quality service that represents an unparalleled value in the industry. I do recommend it to people and hope that it can continue doing what it does even after the sale. That said, I must admit that I just canceled the auto re-billing of my yearly subscription. 1, the subscription model doesn't sit too well with my preference to 'own' the things I pay for. Though I will ultimately pay more for these games with a service like GoG, I get to own and keep the game therefor I'm happier spending my money for it. 2, Gametap still doesn't work in Vista x64. Sure I have XP machines and my main gaming rig does duel boot but I spend the majority of my time in Vista x64 so no deal. And before the anti-vista league swoops in, know it is the x64 part that is incompatible, not Vista itself. It runs fine in 32bit Vista and x64 was my choice to install. It is also jacked in XP x64.
