Disney's plans to make the Prince of Persia game series as their next major movie franchise just hit a speed bump. Variety reports that the film, which just got started shooting last week in Morocco, won't be coming out in June 2009 as originally anticipated. Instead the movie is now scheduled for release for Memorial Day 2010.

Officially the reason for the date change is to give director Mike Newell more time for post production. Unofficially rumors are that Disney didn't want Prince of Persia to go up against Paramount's Transformers 2 which is currently scheduled for release in June 2009. The game's current owner Ubisoft had plans to release a game based on the movie in the summer of 2009; it's likely those plans have now been pushed back as well.
