Call of Duty: World at War gets official release date; new trailer download

Remember when we posted up rumors (via Electronic Gaming Monthly) that Activision might hold off on their next Call of Duty game until February 2009? Well, it looks like that particular nugget is wrong. Activision sent out their official press release today announcing Call of Duty: World at War and the news is that the game is scheduled currently for release this fall for the PC and other platforms.

As previously revealed, this new game, developed by Treyarch, will go back to the series' previous WWII war theater, although part of the game will head to the South Pacific as US forces take on the Japanese army. There's also co-op online for PC players for up to four players (no word on if it will also include co-op LAN play). The new game will also include the ranking and experience points features that were in Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 in both multiplayer and co-op modes. If you want to see some of the Pacific theater warfare you can download the new trailer now at Big Download. You can also check out some hands-on impressions at Joystiq.
