Gaming doesn't make you a nerd... does it?

A study out of Australia seems to have clinically "proven" what most of us already knew: gaming does not turn you into a social misfit or make you a nerd. At least that's what the "study" carried out by Daniel Loton, an Australian psychology graduate and long-time gamer, seems to think.

In an online survey (it being online makes us wonder about the validity of this test) that took two years (yes, two years) Loton found that 15 percent of 621 adults (if it was online, how did he know for a fact they were adults?) who responded were identified as "problem gamers" who spent more than 50 hours a week playing games. However, Loton found only one percent of these gamers appeared to have poor social skills, specifically shyness. Now, how does one go about accurately judging the level of one's social skills through a survey that is conducted online? An anonymous, safe place where virtually everyone becomes braver than the Man of Steel.

He added that the findings contradict normal stereotypes associated with gamers -- loners and geeks who are addicted to gaming because they're unable to socialize. We hate to brings this up Mr. Loton, but an online survey where respondents don't have to leave the house doesn't really bolster your assertions. We're just saying...
