Once upon a time there was an MMO named EverQuest, and everyone loved it. Some loved it so much, in fact, that their significant others left them due to EverQuest taking over their lives. Then a new MMO, World of WarCraft, was born, and EverQuest servers emptied en masse due to players going to the new, brighter MMO kingdom where they could spend all of their time and money.
That, according to Sony Online Entertainment, is no fairytale ending. EverQuest 1 and 2 are still doing quite well, but for SOE, "quite well" is not well enough. In a move designed to attract former EQ players back to their first addiction, SOE has launched an initiative called Living Legacy.
The Living Legacy initiative entails in-game events, updates, and most importantly, free play from now until July 31. Returning EQ1 players will receive the Secrets of Faydwer all-in-one compilation, while prodigal EQ2-ers will be bequeathed with the Rise of Kunark all-in-one compilation. Players returning to either game will also receive in-game items.
Other offers and rewards, such as free play-time for recruiting friends, are listed at SOE's official Living Legacy website.
